Organization Overview:
Council of Peoples Organization (COPO) is an award winning, Brooklyn based start-up, not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the immigrant community, particularly the South Asian community. COPO’s mission is to assist low income immigrant families of Central Brooklyn -- particularly South Asian and Muslims – reach their full potential as residents of New York City. We do this by helping those in needs gain access to basic education and healthcare; by encouraging economic and civic participation; and by empowering our marginalized communities to advocate for their rights.
Job Description:
COPO is launching new initiatives and is seeking a team player for this part-time position providing fundraising and data management support for its Director of Programs & Development. The intern will work on a variety of projects.
Tasks would include:
1. Grant applications and monitoring
· Organize files and a calendar for foundations, and the like, to track and maintain records of grant cycles, grants submitted, and the like [hard copies and electronic files];
· Draft grant applications for review with the Development Director and/or other appropriate staff and Board members; submit final grant applications in a timely way;
2. Other fundraising activities:
· Delineate and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for other fundraising efforts, to include (but not limited to):
- direct mailings;
- phone calling to supporters and potential supporters;
- special events and fundraising activities locally and nationally;
- Create a funding portfolio and promotional material to cultivate foundation, religious institutions, and major donors.
Qualifications:
A creative, organized, and detail-oriented thinker will get the most out of this position. Qualified candidates will have experience with fundraising activity, proficiency with PC applications, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet and presentation graphics. The position requires attention to detail, an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, a sense of humor, and ability to operate in a changing environment while meeting deadlines.
