UNITY EFFORT PROJECT
The “UNITY EFFORT” project is a unique effort of bringing people from diverse communities together using the young people (whom we call the unpolluted minds) as a stepping stone. The focus is on young people as they have no kind of bias in their way of thinking. The project envisions bringing the young people together using sports and studies as the medium. Driven by a better future for their children the project would at a later stage include the parents/ guardians of the participating young people thereby building communities in the process. The project derives its origin from two phrases, ‘catch them young’ and ‘child is the father of man’.
The idea behind is a hope that the shared interests of the young people from the South Asian region, African American, Jewish, and other communities, living in the Midwood and Crown Heights areas of Brooklyn, brought together by their love of basketball, to share their moments together as a team which will help them negotiate the stress that has existed in their communities because of the events of September 11, 2001, the ongoing conflicts in the Middle Eastern region and the riots that erupted in the Crown Heights area in the summer of 1991.
